Man's Hairy Chest Is Contributing Factor In Plane Death

A man died after suffering a heart attack on board a plane – but cabin crew did not use a defibrillator in a bid to revive him because his chest was too hairy, his wife claims.

Caroline and Jack Jordan were on the Southwest Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Albuquerque when the incident happened.

Fellow passengers performed CPR, but despite their best efforts, Mr Jordan died.

His wife said a defibrillator was on board but was not used because of her husband’s hairy chest.

'The flight attendant that had been right up there with us said because his chest is too hairy,’ she said.

‘I don’t expect the airlines or the flight attendants to be nurses or doctors, but in that kind of a circumstance one of the first things that they should be doing is getting that AED hooked up.’

A defib kit comes with scissors and razors. Eventually his chest was shaved but by this time it was too late.

A Southwest Airlines spokeswoman said the airline is looking into the incident.
