Pentecost Deacon Caught In The Act In Ghana

An Elder and Deacon of the Church of Pentecost in Breman Fawomanye in the Ejumako-Enyan-Essiam District ‘clashed’ in the room of a female when the two went there for separate ‘visitations’.

Deacon Kwame Acquah narrated to Adom News that several complains from leaders of the church in the community that Elder Samuel Akumsah who is also an Assemblyman in the area was engaged in extra-marital affairs with certain females in the community, compelled him to start monitoring the movements of the church leader in the community.

Several weeks of waiting and monitoring came to an end around 10 am on May 12, 2015 when he said he saw the Pentecost Elder enter the room of the lady not for regular church visitation purposes but to have an affair with her.

Sensing danger, Deacon Acquah said he alerted the wife of the Elder and together, the two stormed the home of the lady in question. Deacon Acquah who claimed he spotted the elder having sex with the unmarried member upon arrival in the room of the lady said he and the elder engaged in fisticuffs after he raised the alarm to alert neighbours about the activities of the Elder.

“The moment he emerged from the room of the lady, he slapped me and I also started struggling with him…however because he was too strong, he overpowered me and run away…,” he said. Though several youth in the community who arrived at the scene after he raised the alarm did not harm the Elder, he later reported to the police that the youth attacked him.

Pastor Rapes Married Woman

A senior staff of the Christian Council of Ghana in Tamale, James Nahyi, popularly known as "Odenden", has discarded the teachings in the holy Bible and forcibly slept with an unsuspecting married woman (name withheld), who happens to be his former school mate.

The alleged rapist, who was pronounced guilty of the crime by the Paramount Chief of Tamale, Naa Dakpema Alhassan Dawuni, and his elders on January 30th 2015, now has another hurdle to clear, as the angry husband of the victim is now seeking his immediate removal from the Christian Council of Ghana.

James Nahyi was sentenced by the Dakpema for not only flouting the traditional laws of Dagbon, but for causing emotional trauma and distress, as well as defiling the matrimonial oath of the couple, and disrespecting the dignity of the woman.

He was then asked to provide two fowls, a goat, and two bottles of schnapps among others for rituals to appease the land and the gods of Dagbon.

The husband of the victim, (name withheld), a businessman in Kumasi, told The Chronicle that he wanted nothing but stiffer punishment and public exposure to deter the "unremorseful James" from visiting other unsuspecting or innocent married women with his "uncontrolled sexual desire."

Student Clones Tinubu’s Facebook Account, Dupes JobSeekers

Police in Lagos have arrested a 19-year-old polytechnic student, Emmauel Eto, for allegedly operating a fake Facebook account of a former Governor of Lagos State and the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu.

It was learnt that Eto was arrested on Saturday, May 9, by operatives of the State Intelligence Bureau of the Lagos State Police Command. The police said the suspect was apprehended following a complaint made by one Idowu Adeyemi that an unknown person, impersonating as Tinubu, created a Faceboook account in same name, and swindled some job seekers.

It was gathered that Eto allegedly told members of the public, through the fake Facebook account, that there were available employment opportunities in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and other government agencies. He also allegedly requested that interested applicants should pay the sum of N26,850, which was employment and processing charges.

The police said the items recovered from the suspect were six SIM cards, 13 empty SIM card packs, six photographs of a white man, and one I-pad.

Eto, who hails from Oleh in the Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, said it was another student in the polytechnic who trained him.

He said, “I am studying Mechanical Engineering at the polytechnic. I am in my second year. This whole thing started in January 2015. It was a colleague, Kelvin, who gave me the idea. I don’t know Tinubu and have not met him. My friend gave me the idea, and it actually worked because three job seekers paid money into my bank account.

“I also have phone numbers from the United Kingdom and the United States of America which I used to communicate with victims. It is just three persons I have duped so far.”

The Commissioner of Police, Kayode Aderanti, said the command would not fail to bring all criminally minded persons to justice.

He said, “The command will not rest on its oars to ensure that any crime committed is punished and the offenders apprehended. The suspect, who posed as a prominent Nigerian on the Facebook and other social media platforms, has confessed to the crime and investigation is ongoing.”

Father Cuts Daughter’s Leg With Hot Knife, Flees

The father of a 17-year-old girl, identified simply as Senami, is on the run after allegedly cutting his daughter’s leg with a hot knife. It was learnt that the father, who was identified only as Azama, tortured the girl, who hawks Dokunu (local dish), for returning home late on Sunday, May 4.

She was said to have returned home earlier on the fateful day, but went back to collect payment from some customers who bought Dokunu on credit. It was told that Senami’s explanation to her father fell on deaf ears. He reportedly tied her with a rope and used the hot knife on her left leg.

It was gathered that Senami had helped her stepmother, Rukayat, to hawk the goods, which she usually did in the evening every day. Senami lives with the couple in the Badagry area of Lagos.

It was also learnt that a seven-year-old girl, Aliat Musa, also lives with the couple. She was said to have been tortured by Rukayat. Musa, who is Rukayat’s cousin, sustained injury in the head during one of the tortures.

It was said that the injuries drew attention of the teachers in the school which Senami attended. One of her teachers, it was learnt, took her to a social welfare office in Badagry. The teacher later took her to the Ajeromi Police Station, where the case was reported.

Senami, an indigene of Benin Republic, said, “On May 4, after I came back from hawking, daddy (Azama) ordered me to go back and collect the N500 my customers owed me. I came back home late. I did not know my father had put a knife on the fire. He tied my leg and started stabbing me with the knife.

“When I got to the school the following day, my teacher, Mr. Okoafose, took me to a welfare office and we all went to a police station.”

An employee of the welfare organisation, who preferred not to be named, said the victim was “utterly abused.”

She said, “The subject (Senami) reported that she hawked Dokunu every day after school. This is a clear case of child abuse. It is high time parents stopped this inhumane act. We will ensure that the father is arrested.”

While Azama is still at large, his wife was arrested for assaulting Musa. She was arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court.

Appearing before the presiding magistrate, Mr. P.A. Adekomaya, on Thursday, Rukayat pleaded guilty to the two counts preferred against her by a prosecutor, Inspector Olusoji Ojaokoma.

The magistrate subsequently sentenced her to three months of community service.

Adekomaya said, “Upon the quilty plea by the accused, she is sentenced to three months community service to be carried out at the Badagry General Hospital.”

Doctors ‘Left Mobile Phone Inside Woman After Caesarean Section’

A mother who delivered her son by caesarean section says she was left with a mobile phone inside her body when she was sewn back up. Hanan Mahmoud Abdul Karim, 36, underwent caesarean section at a private hospital in Jordan giving birth to a baby boy weighing 10lbs 8ozs.

However, after the new mother experienced abdominal vibrations, her family rushed her to the public Al Bashir hospital where doctors allegedly found the foreign object and removed the phone. Her mother, Majeda Abdul Hamid, told reporters: ‘My daughter suffered serious pains and could not move.

‘I brought her back to the hospital where she was treated but nothing was done for her.’

The Jordanian Health Ministry spokesman, Hatem Al Azrae, was reported by Gulf News dismissing the claim as a ‘baseless and a fabricated one’.

President Goodluck Jonathan Says Friends Abandoned Him After Presidential Election Defeat.

Outgoing Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan said Sunday that some of his friends deserted him shortly after he conceded defeat to his rival General Muhammadu Buhari in the March election.

Jonathan publicly conceded defeat to Buhari on March 31, a decision which was commended by local and foreign commentators and doused tension in the country.

"Some hard decisions have their own costs. No doubt about that. It is a very costly decision but I must be very ready to pay for it," Jonathan said during a farewell church service in Abuja.

Jonathan's public admission of defeat in the nail-biting election came more than six hours after he rang Buhari to concede, earning him widespread praise for statesmanship.

"If you take certain decisions, you should know that people close to you will even abandon you at some point. I tell people that more of my so-called friends will disappear."

Many party faithful and erstwhile loyalists of Jonathan have either crossed over to Buhari's All Progressives Congress or made harsh statements against Jonathan's party or its leaders.

Jonathan said he was not surprised by the desertions or statements by his former loyalists, adding that former South African president Frederik de Klerk faced a similar situation when he decided to abolish minority rule in that country.

Jonathan said that de Klerk's marriage to his wife, Marike, broke down after he took that decision.

"But that is the only decision that made South Africa to still be a global player. If by this time w still have minority rule in South africa, nobody would have been talking about South Africa in the present generation," he said.

He said that ministers who served under him should brace themselves for "persecution" following his loss and his decision to concede defeat.

Buhari, a former military leader, is scheduled to be sworn into office on May 29.

Driver Knocks down 67-Year-Old While Running From Touts

A 67-year-old man, Udon Ime, was knocked down by a commercial tricycle driver operating in the Ojuelegba area of Lagos.

It was learnt that the driver of the tricycle, Ibrahim Lateef, rammed into the old man while he was trying to escape paying N100 to some touts, popularly called Agbero, in the area, who reportedly fought for the control of the steering of the tricycle with him and in the process, hit the man, who was walking by the roadside.

Ime, a driver, was said to be going to his boss’ house in Aguda on Saturday when the incident happened around 8am.

He was said to have lost consciousness and was rushed to a hospital in Ikeja. When his condition did not improve, he was referred to another hospital in the Oyingbo area. He was said to have sustained injury in the head.

Lateef was arrested on the fateful day by policemen from Barracks Police Station, while his tricycle was siezed. He has, however, been released on bail.

The victim was still recuperating in his residence on Omotola Street, Iwaya.

He said, “I was going to work in Aguda when the incident happened on April 25. I did not know how I found myself in the hospital. I have undergone x-ray and treatments. I was told the tricycle driver paid my hospital bills. I am getting better now. Let the police free the man and his tricycle. The most important thing is that I am still alive.”

Lateef said he had paid about N30,000 to the police for the tricycle to be released to no avail, adding that he got the tricycle on hire purchase.

He said, “I did not hit the man deliberately. It was some Agberos in Ojuelegba who dragged the steering with me that caused the accident. The touts collect almost half of the money I realise daily. I got the tricycle three months ago on hire purchase. I am still struggling to complete the payment.

“I was detained for five days in custody and paid N30,000 for my tricycle to be released. I also paid N25,000 for the man’s hospital bill. I have suffered enough.”

A driver in Ojuelegba, who identified himself only as Samson, also lamented the activity of the touts.

“I had been beaten up in the past for refusing to pay N100. I pay at least N900 per day. We have complained about it, but nothing was done. I just have to be paying it to guarantee my livelihood. I don’t have any other means,” he said.

The Lagos State Police spokesperson, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, promised that the tricycle would be released as soon as the family of the victim officially agreed to let go of the incident.

He said, “The tricycle is in the police custody. It will be released once a mutual agreement is reached between the family of the victim and the driver. We have nothing to do with the tricycle. I don’t believe any money was collected from him.”
