Confusion As Residents Find Baby's Placenta With Muslim Cleric

The discovery of a baby placenta in the residence of a man, identified simply as Alfa Gani, is causing confusion in the Laduba community, Ogidi area of Ilorin, Kwara State.

It was gathered on Thursday that the discovery was made when some volunteers went round the Laduba community to appeal for financial contributions from residents for the repair of a faulty transformer in the area.

It was said that the volunteers perceived offensive odour at Gani’s residence, which they later reported to other members of the community.

It was said that curious to know what smelled, some members of the community rushed to Gani’s residence and demanded an explanation for the offensive odour oozing from his house.

An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, said that Gani initially accused the community members of intruding into his privacy.

He was said to have rushed to the Oloje Police Station to report the community members.

The source added that before Gani could come back with the police, the community members had entered his house and discovered a boy with a baby placenta.

The enraged community members were said to have beaten up the boy, making him to confess that he was asked to prepare a charm by Gani, who allegedly exhumed the placenta.

While this was going on, our correspondent gathered that a woman, whose baby naming ceremony was recently held near Gani’s house, arrived at the scene.

On seeing the placenta, she was said to have rushed to where the placenta of her new-born baby was buried, only to discover that it was missing. She was said to have raised the alarm, alerting the community members to the ugly development.

When he came back with the policemen to arrest the community members, the commotion was still in progress.

The source said, “The residents narrated their discovery to the policemen. It was at that point that the policemen decided to search the entire house including an uncompleted building behind the suspect’s house, after which they discovered some human parts.”

It was gathered that the enraged mob vandalised Gani’s house and set it on fire.

Policemen, who were overwhelmed by the crowd, managed to prevent them from lynching the suspect as they whisked Gani away to their station.

It was learnt that the incident fuelled speculations that there were dens of ritual killers and markets where human parts were traded in Ilorin.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Kwara State Command, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, however, told our correspondent that there was no den of ritual killers in the state capital.

He said, “That is not true. What was discovered was not a den of ritual killers, but a suspected criminal who was used to performing fetish activities.

“The man was looking for a placenta of a new baby, exhumed the buried placenta and used it for whatever yet-to-be identified purpose.

“He just came back from jail. He went to where a placenta was just buried about three days ago before the incident. He dug up the placenta and while he was doing that, people saw him and tried to do things their own way.

In the process of damaging his house by the youth, the police got there and arrested the suspect with the exhibit.

“The police have started investigation to get to the root of the matter.”

Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield Gets Together After Their Controversial Fight!!!

Mike Tyson will present fellow former boxing heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield with a trophy commemorating his induction the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame Aug. 9, according to a new report.

The two rivals have come a long way since their bitter in-ring feud that culminated in Tyson twice biting Holyfield's ear during a fight in 1997, resulting in his disqualification.

The fight was a rematch of their 1996 bout, which Holyfield won via stoppage.

Tyson called the opportunity to meet with Holyfield again and help induct him into the Nevada Hall a "privilege and high honor." Holyfield was seemingly more subdued but no-doubt sincere in saying, of Tyson's involvement, "that's great."

Holyfield will be inducted in the non-resident category of Nevada's boxing hall, along with former champs George Foreman and Roberto Duran.

Additionally, many other fighters are being inducted in various categories this year, including Sonny Liston, Archie Moore and Jack Dempsey.

Tyson himself was inducted last year in the resident category. Tyson last fought in 2005, losing to Kevin McBride.

Holyfield last fought and won in 2011, scoring a TKO win over Brian Nielsen.

It was gathered that Otaiku killed himself after his woman told him she was no longer interested in the relationship.

After the girlfriend made a U-turn, the deceased was said to have become worried, and this made neighbours, who were aware of the development, to intervene. Efforts were made to reconcile them.

On one of such occasions, an eyewitness said the duo was invited to discuss in privacy inside a shop at Safari junction in Onikolobo.

It was further gathered that Olaogun stood her ground and maintained that she could not continue with the relationship.

On hearing this unfavourable verdict, the deceased reportedly brought out the knife from his pocket which made Olaogun to run out of the shop, thinking she was the target.

Olaogun was said to have immediately alerted neighbours who rushed into the shop and met the deceased stabbing himself.

He was said to have been rushed to the Mercy Hospital in the Panseke area of Abeokuta.

From there, he was referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, also in Abeokuta, but he died on the way to the hospital.

The case was said to have been reported at the Adigbe Police Division and policemen were sent to the scene for investigation.

National Confab Delegates Receives Threat Messages From Boko-Haram

A revelation by a member of the National Conference that he had received a threat message from terrorists caused a scare at the confab on Monday.

The delegate, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), told the conference that he received a message on his telephone threatening an “attack bigger than Nyanya blast” and sought the permission of the Chairman of the confab, Justice Idris Kutigi (retd.), to read the message.

Kutigi granted the permission and Ozekhome accordingly read the text.

The message, which Ozekhome also forwarded to our correspondent later, read, “News got to us that our enemy is planning something bigger than Nyanya blast between Tuesday and Wednesday, in Abuja. Mind your movement and be careful. The date is still unknown. Please, pass it around to save loved ones.”

After listening to the text of the message, one of the delegates, who asked not to be named, shouted, “We are in trouble in this country. Bombing everywhere; when will this stop? Even here, we don’t know what is going to happen. Things are so bad in the country. Things are so bad.”

Many of the delegates were seeing discussing the development in hushed tones but with panic on their faces.

Another delegate, Obi Onoliefo, had on Thursday last week, raised the issue of safety of delegates when, having looked at the perimeter of the National Judicial Institute, observed that there were no security operatives manning them.

Onoliefo, therefore, called for security operatives to be drafted to the perimeter fences to forestall insurgents from breaking into the premises and causing bloodshed.

Meanwhile, some hoodlums suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect invaded the Shani Local Government Area of Borno State on Monday and torched the Divisional Police Station, houses and shops.

It was learnt that the insurgents used Improvised Explosive Devices and petrol bombs.

The Caretaker Chairman of the council, Alhaji Modu Walama, who was said to have escaped a series of attacks by assassins and terrorists in recent past, narrowly escaped being killed by the terrorists.

The insurgents were said to have attacked the family house of Walama in Walama and killed one of his sons.

It was learnt that the terrorists invaded Shani on motorcycles and bombed the divisional police headquarters at about 2:45pm on Monday.

The policemen on duty had fled before the attackers reached the station.

They were said to have snatched one of the patrol vehicles belonging to the police and set it ablaze after they discovered that the vehicle’s engine was faulty.

The gunmen reportedly moved from the police station into the town and shot sporadically before fleeing towards the Gwaskara village.

Shani is the southern part of the troubled Borno State and about 245 kilometres drive from Maiduguri, the state capital. It shares boundary with some parts of Adamawa State.

A resident of Shani, Mallam Aliyu Usman, who was among those who fled the town during the attack, told journalists that they got news of the terrorists lurking around the town at about 8am.

He said some women sighted the criminals on their farmlands around Walama, on the outskirts of the town.

The terrorists were said to have scared the women off their farms, telling them that they had a deadly mission to execute in some places in Shani.

All efforts to get the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Gideon Jubrin, for confirmation was not successful as his phone line was inaccessible as of the time of filing this report.
