It’s believed he was born prematurely in a local hospital on January 8, and weighed just 49 ounces. But after spending 23 days in an incubator, his family decided to take him home for the Chinese New Year – where his condition continued to deteriorate.
After returning to hospital for emergency treatment, the boy suffered a fatal heart attack – before being eventually sent to the Pan’an Funeral home on February 4.
Describing the moment that the boy’s cries were heard in the funeral home, a worker said: ‘As soon as I pulled him out of the morgue, I thought I heard noises. When I pushed him to the crematory, the noises became louder.
‘I opened the container and saw him moving, so I told the father the baby was still alive.’
Doctors at the Pan’an People’s Hospital have since described the boy’s survival as a miracle.
Doctor Chen, the hospital’s head of paediatrics, said: ‘I have been a paediatrician for over 20 years. I’ve never seen anything like this.’
