There is Humility in Service: Meet the world's poorest President

This is 77 years old President José Mujica, of Uruguay who has earned himself  an enviable reputation as the "poorest," or the "most generous," president in the world. He is nicknamed, "el presidente mas pobre" which means " poorest president". He has been president of Uruguay since March 1, 2010

In a recent interview with him, the President said the only big item he owns is his Volkswagen Beetle car, valued at $1,945 dollars (about N308,283) . He earns a salary of $12,500 a month (N1,981,250), but only keeps $1,250(N198,125) for himself, donating the rest to charity. He has no bank accounts, no debts, and he enjoys the companionship of his dog, Manuela. When his term is over, the President hopes to rest even more peacefully in his farmhouse where he lives along with his senator wife, Lucía Topolansky who also donates part of her salary to charity and his inseparable dog.

It was also reported that under his stewardship, Uruguay has become known for low levels of corruption. The South American country ranks as the second least corrupt
country in Latin America in Transparency International’s global corruption index.

The last president that I know who retired to his farm, is still raking in millions/month!!!

A Hong Kong shipping tycoon has offered a $65 million "marriage bounty'' to any man who can win the heart of his lesbian daughter. Cecil Chao announced the financial reward of HK$500 million after his daughter, Gigi, married her same-sex partner of seven years in France earlier this year.

Same-sex marriages are not recognized in Hong Kong, a socially conservative Chinese city where homosexuality was decriminalized in 1991.

School teacher runs away with pupil!!!

"Those who educate children well are more to be honored than parents, for these only gave life, those the art of living well" - by Aristotle. But this is not the case of a married school teacher who runs away with a girl of 15 from his school.

Megan Stammers ran away with 30 years old maths teacher Jeremy Forrest. The pair were seen boarding a ferry from Dover to Calais.

Mr. Forest wrote about the crisis in his personal life in a blog. He wrote: ' About a week ago I had a bit of moral dilemma to deal with, both internally and externally. And the overriding question it left me with was this: How do we, and how should we, define what is right or wrong, acceptable or unacceptable?

'I came to a few different conclusions, mainly that actually we get a lot of things wrong, but at the end of the day I was satisfied that if you can look yourself in the mirror and know that, under all the front, that you are a good person, that should have faith in your own judgement.'

Their relationship has been going on for a while and was been investigated seven months ago by local authorities. Classmates of Megan's also told teachers in February that the teenager and the teacher had been holding hands on a return flight after a school trip to Los Angeles in February. 'They would always text each other. He would send her messages saying things like "I miss you" and "I can't wait to hug you",' the friend, also 15.

'We are really angry the school did not do enough to protect Megan. And now no one knows where she is or if she's coming back.'

They added: 'I don't know how it all started with Mr Forrest but to begin with she was really excited about it.

'She would tweet about being in love and show us his texts. But after it was reported she stopped and then deleted her Twitter account. She never spoke about it after that and she didn't tell any of us that she was leaving. She probably knew we would stop her.'

Parents please keep watch on your teenage daughters!!!

7up Manager Dies In Hotel Room After Sex-Romp With Co-Worker

The Human Resources Manager of 7-UP Bottling Company at its Benin plant, Mr Sola Mosiko, collapsed and died in a hotel room in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, while having fun with a lady.

Mosiko, 53, had gone to the hotel with a lady called Amen, who is a security guard at the company, to have fun when the tragedy occurred.

Mosiko called at the hotel with Amen after the day’s work to relax and enjoy themselves. However, a few hours after they checked into the hotel, the lady rushed out and was shouting for help. But all efforts to resuscitate Mosiki proved abortive.

Amen was later arrested and handed over to the police at Ekiadolor Police Station, Benin City. She was detained for three days after which she was released.

According to sources, Mosiko’s wife and children left Lagos for Benin City to spend their vacation with him and on the night of the incident, his wife made several calls to his phone without any response. But the following morning, the police used her husband’s phone to call and invite her to the hospital where Mosiko was taken to.

She was later informed that her husband died in a hotel.

Igbos Clamours for the Declaration of Republic of BIAFRA!!!

The Biafra Zionist Movement (BZM) has restated its determination to go ahead with the November 5 declaration of a Republic of Biafra. It has also called on the Igbos and politicians from the South East to forget about the 2015 presidential bid as it would no longer be necessary. The group advised the apex Igbo socio-cultural Organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo to concentrate on how to recover Igbo territories ceded to Rivers, Delta and Kogi States rather than pursuing shadows.

National secretary of BZM Nweke M. Nweke wants the Ohanaeze members to show enough commitment to the interest of the Igbo ethnic nationality in Nigeria. Nweke also expressed regrets that Ohanaeze could not take one stand on the continued relegation of the Igbo in Nigeria and had failed to unite the leaders in the zone for the people to make a political headway. “

They should drop this talk about the 2015 presidency and concentrate on how to reclaim our brothers and sisters in Rivers, Delta and Kogi states. “This is important now because these people that were enticed into believing that they are not Igbos will not forgive us in future when the chips are down.” The organization which has reserved November 5 for the re-declaration of the sovereign state of Biafra said there was no going back on that date.

He hinted that their leader, Mr. Ben Onwuka who is now in the United States canvassing for support, would be back soon for the “epoch making occasion.” It is the belief of the group that the United States must fully be involved for Biafra to be actualized.

The group’s leader while in the US, would liaise with United States-based Biafra groups such as Biafra Foundation and Biafra Government in Exile (BGI) on the November 5 re-declaration. The group praised the Nigerian security for the way they related with them, adding that that was informed by their matured approach to their cause.

JUNGLE JUSTICE - Woman beaten up, stripped for being in possession of 4 kids a case of mistaken identity

A woman escaped death by the whiskers in Lagos yesterday, as she was beaten black and blue and stripped naked for being in possession of four kids, which a mob alleged were stolen. The woman was about being lynched by the mob when police detectives attached to Layeni Police Station, at Ajeromi/ Ifelodun Local Government Area swiftly moved to the scene and rescued her and the children.

One of the kids was also injured in the face and his clothes were soaked in blood. The woman was said to have been sighted at Suru Alaba Market Bus Stop with the kids below the age of five. Daily Sun gathered that people who saw them suspected that since the children were almost of the same age bracket the woman could not be their mother.

Upon interrogation by the curious mob, the woman allegedly claimed that she was the mother of two of the kids while the other two were her sister’s. An eyewitness who identified himself simply as Azeez said the irate crowd were not convinced, as some accused her of attempting to use the children for rituals. Some alleged she stole the children from different people at the market. He said the woman received the beating of her life and women even joined the male folk to strip her naked.

They tore her trousers, blouse and bra to shred. He said if not for the quick intervention of the police the woman would have been lynched. At the police station, the suspect called a woman who identified herself as her mother.

Immediately the elderly woman arrived at the station with a baby and sighted the kid who was injured, she sprawled on the floor and wept. A police source at the station disclosed that the woman claimed to be the mother of the stripped woman.

According to the elderly woman, one of her daughters delivered two of the kids out of wedlock before she got married and left them in her care. She added that another of her daughters delivered the remaining two, adding that the father of the kids had travelled to Angola, while the woman who was attacked had the baby she brought to the station. She explained that she lived at Ezeagu Street, Ajegunle while her daughter who was attacked resided at Coker.

The granny said she went to her daughter’s home to take care of her newborn baby according to the Ibo tradition. The granny also said she sent her daughter to bring the children from her home at Ezeagu Street to her, adding that the mob action was unfortunate.

Donald Trump Blames Kate Middleton for Topless Photo Fiasco

While the royal palace is up in arms over the publication of Kate Middleton's topless photos, Donald Trump has no sympathy for the embarrassed Duchess of Cambridge.

On Monday, the "Celebrity Apprentice" host tweeted, "Kate Middleton is great--but she shouldn't be sunbathing in the nude--only herself to blame. He later added, "Who wouldn't take Kate's picture and make lots of money if she does the nude sunbathing thing. Come on Kate!"

Today, the royal couple gained a small victory by winning an injunction blocking the photos publication in France. However, an Italian and Irish newspaper have already also published the offending photos.

Two members of a Chinese firm dies in firms pool

A Chinese Group of Companies, Ikeja, Lagos, were thrown into confusion on September 9, 2012 after the corpses of two of their colleagues, Odion Imhonbhio who workes as a cook in the company for about two year while Richard Dada spent about three years, were found at the bottom of the swimming pool on the premises. It was that Odion and Dada went swimming the previous night around 9pm and were not seen till the following morning. It was learnt that the corpses were immediately recovered and sent to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for autopsy. Although the autopsy states that the two boys died of asphyxia and drowning, families of the deceased have cast doubt on the real cause of death.

According to Odion’s brother, Matthew, the corpse of the 21-year-old man was found inside the swimming pool, with blood coming out of his ears, nostrils, and mouth.

Matthew said, “My brother’s corpse didn’t look like that of a drowned person. Something just looks suspicious because how can two full grown men just drown at the same time in a pool that is not deep?

“Although my brother is just a moderate swimmer, I learnt Dada was a very good swimmer and as such shouldn’t have drowned just like that. Another member of the family questioned why the company would offer both families the sum of N500,000 each even  before investigations were concluded.

“Odion was a twin and according to Edo culture, when a twin dies, he ought to be buried immediately. He’ll be buried at St. Mathias Catholic Church tomorrow,” Matthew said. Dada’s brother said the family had hired the services of a lawyer due to the nature of the case.

The lawyer, Mr. Matthew Onah, faulted the autopsy because members of both families were not present when the autopsy was  carried out. Onah said, “I find it very suspicious that two men that have been working in the company for years suddenly drowned at the same time and they didn’t take in any water after drowning.

Also, the company’s offer of N500,000 coupled with policemen at Ikeja station’s refusal to invite any member of staff for questioning and despite this, the matter was quickly transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.

“In addition, no family member was present at the autopsy. I learnt that the SCID immediately rejected the case because the case file was said to be not detailed enough.”

Nigerian Court Sentences Actor to 3 Months in Jail for Engaging in Homosexual Acts

A 28 year-old Nigerian actor, Bestwood Chukwuemeka was on Monday September 17, 2011 sentenced to three-month imprisonment by a Karu Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for having sexual intercourse with another man through the anus.

The convict pleaded guilty and claims to be under the influence of alcohol and asked the court to temper justice with mercy.

The presiding Senior Magistrate, Nafisatu Buba sentenced him to three-month imprisonment without an option of fine. “This would serve as warning to other youths who hide under the influence of alcohol to commit crimes,’’ she was quoted as saying.

Several questions arise here. What about the person he was supposedly having sexual intercourse with? How did the Police arrest him if he was in his bed at the said time?
I have no comments on this one. I think I’d just leave you to share your thoughts.

Romney Tells Millionaire Donors What He REALLY Thinks of Obama Voters

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney was secretly filmed during a private fundraiser where he told a small group of wealthy contributors what he truly thinks of all the voters who support President Barack Obama. He rejected these Americans as freeloaders who pay no taxes, who don't assume responsibility for their lives, and who think government should take care of them. Fielding a question from a donor about how he could triumph in November, Romney replied:

There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax.
Romney went on: "My job is is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

Here is the video of Romney expressing his disdain for Americans who back the president: What is your opinion?

The Hunter becomes the hunted

A leaping dog unintentionally shot his master in the hand by catching the trigger of his shotgun during a hunt in the Dordogne, south-western France.
The shot blew off part of the huntsman's right hand, which he had to have amputated after being flown to hospital in Bordeaux.
But the victim, whose name was given as Rene, said he had only himself to blame for not applying the safety catch.
"It wasn't the dog's fault - and he's adorable!" he told France Bleu radio.
The accident occurred while the huntsman was taking part in a deer hunt on Sunday with three Blue Gascony Basset hounds near St Michel de Double, near Mussidan.
Two of the dogs ran off after a deer while the third, the youngest and new to hunting, stayed by his master, according to French news magazine Le Point.
"[Then] he jumped on me to give me a cuddle, I think," Rene said. "As he jumped, he put a paw on the gun."
The huntsman, 55 and from the region, was evacuated to hospital by air ambulance.
He said he did not hold the incident against his dog "at all".

Security operatives arrested Boko-Haram leader and spokesman

Security operatives in Nigeria carried out a successful raid yesterday against the sect’s leaders in Kano.In what appeared to be a significant victory by Nigerian security operatives against the Boko Haram militant group, top commanders of the sect were arrested on Sunday.

It was gathered that sources in the State Security Service, SSS, say Abu Qaqa, the sect’s spokesman and other top commanders were arrested when the Kano State Joint Task Force- JTF, carried out a sweeping raid on the sect’s hide-outs in Kano.

The Kano Joint Task Force has confirmed the raid and the arrests but could not confirm the identity of the arrested Boko-Haram leaders. However, information gathered from independent sources confirms that the sect’s spokesman, Abu Qaqa was one of those arrested.

We hope they would not also escape from custody like Kabiru Sokoto - believed to be a member of the Islamist sect who escaped from Police as they were attempting to search his house in 18 January 2012?

Lizzie Velasquez, Born Without Any Body Fat: 'Maybe You Should Stop Staring And Start Learning'

Twenty-three-year-old Lizzie Velasquez was born without any adipose tissue - meaning she has no fat on her body. As a result, she weighs just 58 pounds, even though she eat as many as 60 times a day, the Daily Mail reported. she has been the subject of cyberbullying and stares when she walks out in public, she recently revealed to Dr. Drew Pinsky on HLN.

Some cyberbullies even dubbed her the "ugliest woman in the world," because of her appearance due to her medical condition, she said.

"It's not easy, I will be the first to tell you it's not easy," Velasquez told Dr. Drew. "I may have this outer exterior of people saying, 'She can handle everything, she's dealt with this for so long,' and to be honest, I'm human and of course these things are going to hurt."
Back in 2010, The Telegraph reported that Velasquez consumes 5,000 to 8,000 calories a day -- eating food every 15 minutes. But because of the condition, the Texas State University in San Marcos student has never weighed much more than 60 pounds, she wrote in the description of her book that came out earlier this year, titled "Be Beautiful, Be You."

Velasquez's condition is extremely rare; she is just one of three people in the entire world to have it, she noted in her book description.

The Telegraph reported that doctors believe she may have something called Neonatal Progeroid Syndrome. It is a condition that leads to premature aging, but is different from the more common aging disorder, progeria, according to the National Institutes of Health. It is characterized by wrinkled skin, not much fat, a large head, a face that looks aged and visible veins in the scalp.

Kim Kardashian on Kanye Kollaboration: It Would Be a Good ......

It seems Kim Kardashian may have found someone who loves clothing as much as she does. The 31-year-old Armenian beauty recently praised Kanye West's fashion sensibilities to Celebuzz during her Fashion' s Night Out event to launch her new perfume fragrance.
She gushed, "I love his style. He's an amazing designer." When asked whether that shared love of fashion would lead to collaboration, the reality diva answered, "We don’t have anything in the works, but I respect his tastes so much that it would be a good thing. But we have nothing planned."

However, Kim has been busy with her own fashionable pursuits. Her Kardashian Kollection is soon expanding internationally.
"My sisters and I are launching our Kardashian Kollection in the U.K. at Dorothy Perkins. We’re all heading out to the U.K., so that will be really fun because we have exclusive pieces for them.” Not content to just conquer the U.K., she added, "Then we’re launching all across the world.

How Barack Obama Made His Fortune

Transparency in the highest order. Other governments/politicians should take a cue from this!!!

Two weeks ago, we looked at how Rep. Paul Ryan, the Republican nominee for Vice president, made all of his money. The answer? Natural resources, land rights, and stocks, all invested in mutual funds and limited partnerships. We got a lot of requests to do the same thing to Barack Obama, and for him the answer is much easier.

First of all, Obama has released copies of his tax returns, so we're able to produce hard numbers when it comes to what he makes.

Second, his investment strategies are much more coherent than Ryan's. Obama made his fortune from a few sources, and has it invested and stored in a few surprising — but also easy to track — ways.

We got the information from personal finance disclosures and released tax returns hosted by the Center for Responsive Politics. So, here's a timeline of how Barack Obama went from middle class to a multimillionaire. While he was an Illinois state senator, both parents in the Obama family were working (Wikimedia Commons)
In his 2004 financial statements, Barack Obama indicated that he had three sources of income. One was an $80,287 salary from the Illinois Senate, where he was a state senator. The other was a $32,144 salary from the University of Chicago Law School, where Obama taught as a lecturer while he was in the statehouse. The third was Michelle's salary from the University of Chicago Hospitals, where she was an administrator.

While the picture is fuzzy before 2001, here's where Obama kept the money he made from Dreams From My Father in 1995 and his law career. The Obamas had investments in three different assets in 2004.

First was the Illinois State Senate Pension Fund, which Obama listed as worth something between $50,000 and $100,000. The other two were investments in funds with Vanguard, the investment management company.

Obama had investments in the Vanguard Wellington Fund, which he evaluated as worth between $100,000 and $200,000. The Wellington Fund consists of around 60 to 70 percent stocks and 30 percent to 40 percent bonds and is essentially a fundamental mutual fund.

The Obamas also had $50,000 to $100,000 invested in the Vanguard Wellesley Fund. This Fund is more bond-heavy than most balanced funds, with exposure to around two-thirds bonds to one-third stocks. He then scored a huge book deal after the 2004 Democratic National Convention

(Random House)
After giving the keynote address at the 2004 convention as a candidate for Senate — The speech, "The Audacity of Hope," was a slam-dunk that propelled Obama's popularity upwards in the years before his presidential campaign — Obama inked a number of book deals with Random House.

This is the real money.

He signed a deal for 2 nonfiction books and one children's book. One nonfiction would be The Audacity of Hope, an extended version of his 2004 speech. The children's book — we believe — became Of Thee I Sing,  with proceeds going to charity.

Here are the terms of the book deals that made Obama phenomenally rich

After January of 2005, Obama will receive a $1.9 million advance on The Audacity of Hope.

For that book, the deal says that he gets 15 percent of the list price for Hardcover copies, 7 percent of the list price for the trade paperback version, then 8 percent of list price for the first 150,000 issues sold of the mass market paperback, then 10 percent of the list price thereafter.

He also gets 10 percent of Audio book sales. He would go on to win a Grammy for his recording, too.

Random House also republished his 1995 book, Dreams From My Father, generating more sales.

By 2005, he had money in a number of different assets — including on again, off again political foe JP Morgan

(Twitter/@BarackObama)
Once he got the money, he didn't just let it sit in a bank account. He invested.

He got a JPMorgan Chase Private Client Asset Management account, worth at least a hundred thousand dollars. His checking account with Northern Trust was worth between $250,000 and $500,000, and he also banked with UBS.

He got $378,237 in royalties from Dystel & Goderich, his literary agent for Dreams From My Father, and another advance from Random House, $847,167.

By this point, he was worth between $1.1 million and $2.5 million.

From 2006 to 2007, he used the royalties from his books to buy a ton of Treasury notes

During the two years before his presidential run, he cemented his wealth.

In 2006 he got $147,490 for Dreams From My Father and $425,000 from Random House for The Audacity of Hope. In 2007, as his presidential run made him a household name, book sales skyrocketed. He got $815,971 for Dreams and $3.28 million for Audacity.

With the money from this, he made a number of consequential financial choices. He bought somewhere between $500,000 and $1 million worth of U.S. Treasury Notes. He moved the money from the two Vanguard Wellington Mutual Funds to the Vanguard FTSE Social Index Fund, which invests based on "certain social, human rights, and environmental criteria."

In 2007, He also made one of his largest investments in Sasha and Malia's future

Obama in 2007 bought two Bright Directions Age-Based Growth Plans, one for Sasha and the other for Malia.

The plans will pay for their college educations. It's not clear which portfolio he went for — the Balanced, Aggressive, or Growth option — but each was worth between $50,000 and $100,000. By 2010, the portfolios were worth $100,000 to $200,000 each.

The year he ran for President he bought millions of dollars worth of U.S. Treasury Bills

Likely distracted by the race, Obama didn't make any major changes besides investing even more in U.S. Treasury Bills.

By the time he was sworn in, Obama owned somewhere between $1.1 million and $5.1 million worth of U.S. Treasury Bills, comprising most of his net worth. His other assets were worth between $411,000 and $915,000. He did not collect any income from his books.

In 2009, he gave the approximately $1.4 million Nobel Prize money to these charities

When Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009, he told the prize committee to wire the money directly to the following charities:
$250,000 to Fisher House, which gives free housing to veterans and military families getting medical treatment.
$200,000, plus any remaining unallocated money, to the Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund of the Clinton Foundation, a fund that helped rebuild Haiti in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake.
$125,000 to the American Indian College Fund, which gives scholarships to Native Americans.
$125,000 to the Appalachian Leadership and Education Foundation, which gives scholarships to low-income residents of the Appalachia region.
$125,000 to College Summit, an organization that aims to raise college enrollment rates.
$125,000 to the Posse Foundation, which provides full scholarships to extraordinary high school students.
$125,000 to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, which gives scholarships to Latino students.
$125,000 to the United Negro College Fund, which gives scholarships to Black students.
$100,000 to Africare, an organization that builds wells and treats disease in Africa.
$100,000 to the Central Asia Institute, which focuses on education and public health, primarily for girls in Central Asia

Besides all of that, Obama is receiving compensation for his day job.

The President's salary is $400,000 per year. By now, he's received $1.6 million for his first term.
As a United States Senator, Obama was making $174,000 per year. Since he spent four years there, He banked around $696,000 over the course of his term.

All told, in his time in federal government, Obama made (pre-tax) $1.1 million.

His estimated net worth is between $2.8 million and $11.8 million in 2010.

Madagascar's luxury chocolate thieves strike fear into farmers

Charlie and the chocolate factory!!!

It is nightfall in north-western Madagascar and fear is etched on the faces of farm workers as they gather in their remote village, Antanimandririna, to discuss a crisis: How to protect the world's sweetest crop from a growing number of armed bandits capitalising on the West's enduring love for fine chocolate?

Amory, the 62-year-old village head, explains the high levels of crime.

"We had just stocked all of our recent harvest in large wooden stores at the back of the houses, when we woke to find all the pods had gone - stolen," he says.

"The men arrived with guns and threatened the farmers - they came up through the forest and we have heard of other incidents in neighbouring villages that their stocks too have been looted."

Madagascar is home to some of the world's finest rich orange and red pods of cocoa, increasingly used today by Europe and America's finest chocolatiers. Raw cocoa beans, used to make premium chocolate, have quite simply never been in higher demand. A surge in appetite for high-end chocolate sourced from single-origin growers has created a frenzied rush for the "dark gold". The craving for luxury chocolate has also fuelled an increase in the price of some varieties of cocoa in the past few years, with traders paying 10 times the world cocoa price for the best beans.

In recent years, Madagascar, in particular, has yielded the most sought after beans. For the island's cocoa farmers, the surging demand for chocolate should be transformative, especially after years of poverty, but their newfound livelihoods are under threat from armed bandits running rampant in remote areas, hijacking stores and road shipments of the precious beans that make chocolate.

In some villages, bandits have stolen hauls worth around $1,000 (£630) - a fortune in one of the world's poorest countries. "We are suffering here. Our cocoa is amongst the best money can buy but we cannot protect it. People are coming into our forests to take it," another farmer, Floren, tells me.

The higher cocoa prices should raise living standards for poor farmers "There are no police anywhere. This is a lawless place and they can do what they want and they are leaving us with no means to feed our children. They may be poor but they are robbing from even poorer men." Across the island, poverty is the defining issue. For farmers like Amory, the political and economic crisis gripping the heart of the island has left his remote community and many others at the mercy of armed men.

Today, according to the Small Arms Survey Yearbook, about a third of Madagascar has become "Zones Rouges" (red zones), where the government exerts little or no control and where banditry thrives. In some places this lack of policing has led to villagers taking the law into their own hands.

In June, a series of deadly clashes between bandits and farmers following the theft of about 900 cattle near Ilambohazo village in the south-eastern region of Anosy, led to Madagascar's security forces being sent into the area. Few within government speak out against the banditry but some senior police officers have expressed anger at the lack of protection for hard-working cocoa farmers.

Farmer Speaking to the BBC on condition of anonymity, one serving officer said: "We have scant resources controlling remote areas where most criminals operate. We don't even have weapons to protect these men.

"We don't even have enough policemen or vehicles to patrol and as a result the criminals are running things here in the bush."

According to John Ferry, the CEO of Madecasse, the only international company that makes its chocolate bars in a factory in Madagascar's capital, Antananarivo, cocoa needs to be protected because it could become a thriving industry providing employment.

"Cocoa farmers are not being given protection. It is remarkable when you consider a ton of cocoa here can fetch as much as $6,000 (£4,000)," Mr Ferry said.

"That is a life-changing amount so the temptation to commit armed robbery is significant. When the farmer suffers, our business suffers too - we rely on fresh supplies of the finest cocoa."

Madagascar does provide protection for its largest and most valuable export, vanilla.

Madagascar has a thriving cocoa industry
Most of the world's vanilla comes from the island and the movement of the pods is strictly regulated.

It cannot be transported at night and the penalties for stealing it are far harsher.

"We believe cocoa should be given the same protection," Mr Ferry said.

Many of the larger farms now employ their own armed security guards to protect cocoa stores but many individual farmers have little option other than hiding the beans in their own homes, even under the beds where their children sleep.

Amory is one of many farmers now considering buying a gun in order to protect the rest of the villager's livelihood.

"We will have to turn to weapons ourselves and where will that end?" he asked.

"We are farmers. We shouldn't have to take up arms to make a living."

A GRAND VICTORY FOR SERENA

Serena Williams celebrates after defeating Victoria Azarenka 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 in the U.S. Open women's final on Sunday in New York.

NEW YORK - Finally tested, even trailing, at the U.S. Open, Serena Williams turned things around just in time.

Two points from defeat, Williams suddenly regained her composure and her strokes, coming back to win the last four games and beat No. 1-ranked Victoria Azarenka 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 on Sunday night for her fourth championship at Flushing Meadows and 15th Grand Slam title overall.

"I honestly can't believe I won. I really was preparing my runner-up speech, because I thought, `Man, she's playing so great," Williams said during the trophy presentation, adding: "I'm really shocked."

Might be the only one.

After all, what really was stunning was that Azarenka made things as interesting as they were, given that she came into the day 1-9 against Williams over their careers.

Add in that Williams hadn't dropped a set in the tournament, losing only 19 games through six matches before Sunday. All part of a tremendous run she is putting together in reaction to her loss at the French Open in late May, the American's only first-round exit in 49 career major tournaments. Since then, she is 26-1, winning Wimbledon and the London Olympics.

There hadn't been a three-set women's final in New York since 1995, and Williams came through with a late charge to become the first woman to win Wimbledon and the U.S. Open in the same season since a decade ago, when - yes, that's right - she did it.

"Serena deserves the win. She showed how true of a champion she is," Azarenka said. "I definitely gave it all today. Stepping out of this court today, I will have no regrets."

Azarenka hadn't dropped a three-set match all season until Sunday, going 12-0 in matches that went the distance, including victories over defending U.S. Open champion Sam Stosur in the quarterfinals and 2006 champion Maria Sharapova in the semifinals.

As the third set started, Williams' mother, Oracene Price, told her from the stands, "Settle down."

Didn't happen right away.

When Williams double-faulted, slapped a bad backhand into the net and pushed a forehand long, Azarenka broke at love for a 4-3 edge, then followed that up by holding for 5-3.

One game from the championship.

Azarenka was two points away at 30-all with Williams serving in the next game, but couldn't convert. And when Azarenka served for the victory at 5-4, she showed the jitters that probably are understandable given that this was only her second career Grand Slam final, 17 fewer than Williams.
Azarenka made three errors in that game, including a forehand into the net that let Williams break her to 5-all. Williams kept whatever excitement she might have felt contained, face straight as possible, while her older sister, seven-time major champion Venus, smiled and clapped in the stands.

It was all part of a run in which Williams took 10 of 12 points to go ahead 6-5. She then broke again to win, dropping onto her back on the court when Azarenka sent a backhand long to end it.

Azarenka slumped in her changeover chair, a white towel covering her head, as Williams kept saying, "Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Oh, my God!" while scurrying over to share the joy with her mother and big sister.

SERIOUSLY?! What is he thinking. From riches to debts?!
That if he just ignores it, it will go away?!

Yes, that makes his grand total $6,227,767.82!
A rep for the singer asserts:
"He takes this very seriously and is already communicating with the IRS about the payment process to quickly resolve the issue."
Yeah! He probably could have stood to do that back in 2005!
Better late than in jail never, though!
Tisk, tisk, tisk!
